Here's everything you need to know about when the silver market opens, and the best time to trade it. Trade silver with 1:1,000 leverage in just 5 minutes.

1. When does the silver market open and close?

Spot silver begins trading at 10:00 PM GMT on Sunday and closes at 9:00 PM GMT on Friday. Trade silver at market open through this regulated broker.

2. What are silver's trading hours in GMT, and other time zones?

Spot silver trading follows the schedule below:

Time zone Silver trading hours
Los Angeles (PDT) 3:00 PM (Sun) - 2:00 PM (Fri)
New York (EDT) 6:00 PM (Sun) - 5:00 PM (Fri)
London (GMT) 10:00 PM (Sun) - 9:00 PM (Fri)
London (BST) 11:00 PM (Sun) - 10:00 PM (Fri)
Dubai (GST) 3:00 AM (Mon) - 2:00 AM (Sat)
Hong Kong (HKT) 6:00 AM (Mon) - 5:00 AM (Sat)
Sydney (AEST) 8:00 AM (Mon) - 7:00 AM (Sat)

3. Is silver (XAG/USD) traded 24 hours a day?

Not quite 24 hours a day, but almost. Silver trades 23 hours a day, five days a week, with a short daily pause between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM GMT. This one-hour daily pause allows the CME Globex platform to reset its systems. During this break, orders may be placed or cancelled but will not execute.(1)

4. Does silver trade on weekends?

No. Like most Forex and CFD instruments, silver closes late on Friday (9:00 PM GMT) and re-opens on Sunday night (10:00 PM GMT). Prices may gap when the market re-opens if significant geopolitical or economic news occurs over the weekend.

5. At what time does silver trading start on Sunday?

Most brokers begin quoting silver around 10:00 PM GMT on Sunday (equivalent to 6:00 PM New York time or 3:00 AM Monday in Dubai). Some brokers delay order execution by a few minutes, so check your platform's schedule before placing trades in the first minutes after the open.

6. When does silver trading stop on Friday?

Silver trading typically ends at 9:00 PM GMT on Friday, which corresponds to 5:00 PM in New York or 2:00 AM Saturday in Dubai. After that, the market remains closed until Sunday night's open.

7. Is there a daily break in silver's trading hours?

Yes. Every day between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM GMT, CME Globex — the electronic trading platform that underpins most trading in silver futures — pauses for maintenance and settlement processing. You can still modify or cancel orders during this window, but no trades will be executed.

8. What are the opening hours of the COMEX silver futures market?

Silver futures trade electronically on Globex (part of CME Group) from 10:00 PM GMT Sunday to 9:15 PM GMT Friday, with a short 45-minute break at 9:15 PM GMT each day(1). The older open-outcry pit session runs only between 1:25 PM and 6:25 PM GMT on weekdays.

9. What are the silver trading hours on MetaTrader (MT4/MT5)?

To view silver's exact quote and trade times in MetaTrader:

  • Right-click XAGUSD in the Market Watch window.
  • Select 'Specifications'.
  • Scroll to 'Quotes' and ‘Trade' times.

Most brokers follow the 10:00 PM to 9:00 PM GMT schedule, but some may open a few minutes later on Sunday. For example, FxPro.com opens at 10:00 PM, FPMarkets.com at 10:01 PM, and AvaTrade.com at 10:05 PM GMT.

10. What are the silver trading hours on major brokers?

  • FxPro: 10:00 PM (GMT) Sun – 9:00 PM Fri
  • FP Markets: 10:01 PM (GMT) Sun – 9:00 PM Fri
  • AvaTrade: 10:05 PM (GMT) Sun – 9:00 PM Fri

Each broker pauses for an hour daily (9:00 PM–10:00 PM GMT). Leverage limits vary - up to 1:500 with FPMarkets.com, 1:200 at AvaTrade.com, and 1:100 at FxPro.com.

11. Which sessions are most liquid for trading silver?

Liquidity peaks when the London and New York sessions overlap, between roughly 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM GMT. During this window, the LBMA auction, COMEX futures activity, and U.S. economic data releases coincide, tightening spreads and increasing volatility(2).

11. When is the best time of day to trade silver?

For most traders, the overlap between the European and U.S. sessions (1:30 PM to 4:00 PM GMT) offers the best conditions: deep liquidity, narrower spreads, and strong directional moves around U.S. economic data. Short-term traders often target this period, while swing traders may prefer quieter Asian hours for entries with less noise.

12. Do silver and gold trade at the same times?

Yes. Both XAG/USD and XAU/USD are spot metals quoted on the same Forex and CFD platforms. Their trading hours - 10:00 PM GMT Sunday to 9:00 PM GMT Friday, with a daily pause from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM - are identical.

13. Can I trade silver after market hours?

No. Once the silver market closes at 9:00 PM GMT on Friday, trading halts until the Sunday re-open. However, prices of silver-related assets, such as ETFs or mining stocks, may continue to move on other exchanges while spot and CFD markets are closed.

14. Is silver trading open on public holidays?

Silver usually trades on most public holidays, except when major U.S. markets (like COMEX or U.S. banks) are closed, such as on Christmas Day, New Year's Day, or Good Friday. Liquidity can be thin on these days, so spreads may widen even if your broker's platform remains open.
